Default GM norm for IM Edward Porper

Congratulations to IM Edward Porper for the GM norm achieved at 22nd Annual Chicago Open.
After a "slow" 2 rounds with lower opponents pairings he managed to get 6.5/9 (average of opponents = 2491) and a 2627 performance.

He only needed a draw in the last round against GM Conrad Holt but mated him.

    Unhappy Congratulations, but....

Great result for Edward, but wait a minute...

Edward stops being the editor of the CFC newletter in May:
    • he beats Canada's #1 FIDE-rated player at the Calgary International,
    • he beats three GMs and draws with three others to cruise to a GM norm in Chicago.

I start as editor of the CFC Newsletter in May:
    • I play 200+ points below my rating in Arnprior,
    • I play 100 points below my rating at the Ontario Open in Ottawa.

Is this a coincidence, or should I put in for hardship pay?

    Eric is correct.
    Michael's minimum average of the opponents was 2444 (1922, 2559, 2505, 2492, 2470, 2585, 2497, 2485, 2479) which wasn't enough for 4 1/2 points (<2450)
But, according to FIDE rule 1.46c, the rating for 1 player can be raised to 2050 and the average of opponents becomes 2458 > 2450
    Great job Michael.

Looks like this is worse than the 50 point marriage slump!
