Can we limit this site to discussing chess related topics?
It's strange how often just a single objector or two affects things in today's society. Well, if that's the way things are to be, this forum is going to remain pretty dead almost for certain. Is this thread (and the other one about banks that's unrelated to chess, started long ago by Bob G.) to be closed or deleted?
I think it would be particularly extreme to require also that all blog entries for this website to be chess-related from now on, if the implications of Ken's plea are to be fully accepted. My most popular blog entries (in terms of number of views) include many unrelated to chess. A great way to reduce traffic to this website that would be.
A better solution for people like Ken would be simply to not read threads unrelated to chess. Unless e.g. they have an ulterior motive, such as suppressing debate and/or discussion of particular topic(s) by the Canadian chess community as a group.
At the very least, an alternative is for moderator(s) here to provide any number of off-chess-topic forums, as is done on e.g. OzChess, Australia's chess website.

Kevin, I just thought we would like to avoid the Red baiting in your post above.
P.S. There are many histories of Communism in Canada. If you want to read about Canadian communism from the horses mouthy then pick up any books by Tim Buck.
As long as the posts are not defamatory, needlessly insulting or so on we are not likely to intervene even in off topic discussions. I just would hate to see certain people pop up here as we will not tolerate the behaviour that is deemed acceptable elsewhere.
Seems like reasonable restrictions by Vlad.

Here's the wiki on Tim Buck, with some notes on the history of Communism in Canada. The neutrality of a section of the article is indicated as being in dispute, though. Fwiw, I'd think since he was a leader of the party for a time, a book by him on the subject might be biased, too (such as it understating the influence of the party). I already know enough as a Christian, namely that the saint Pope John Paul II abhorred Communism, as did those who were victimized by it:

Something that possibly should be hotter in the news than it was was last December's admission by the Pentagon that it had indeed been studying UFO sightings, still, for years. At the very least, it's an admission the US government can lie to the public in a big way :

Here's a wiki about Maxime Bernier, a Canadian Conservative politician in the news who's had ups and downs over the years:
