Aix-les-Bains, France is the host of this year’s European Continental Championship, an 11 round swiss event. Over 150 2500+ players and a total attendance over 400 will be converging for today’s opening ceremonies.
Some of the best known European players are taking part hoping to capture one of the 23 (!) World Cup spots on the line and also with an eye on the generous prize fund of 120,000 euros.
We’ll see Svidler, Nepomniachtchi (defending champion), Navara, Vitiugov, Jakovenko, Caruana, Wojtaszek, Vallejo Pons, Jobava, Judit Polgar, McShane, Naiditsch, Rublevsky, Cheparinov, etc, etc.
